Protect & Promote

Our environmental office is committed to safeguarding our natural resources and promoting environmental sustainability. They manage solid waste pick-up and disposal, work towards promoting sustainable practices, conservation efforts, and raising awareness about environmental issues.

Funded through the Indian General Assistance Program (IGAP), the office also oversees the management of the landfill in Kokhanok. In addition to these responsibilities, they run a climate resilience program aimed at preparing our community for the impacts of climate change and enhancing our ability to adapt to environmental challenges.

For more information about our Environmental Program, please contact our IGAP staff.

Featured Project

Through a subaward from the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC), Kokhanok Village is investing in a high-capacity, skid-mounted trash burner for the community landfill. This vital upgrade will significantly improve local waste management by safely reducing the volume of solid waste, lowering environmental risks, and helping extend the usable life of the landfill. The project reflects our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and the long-term sustainability of village infrastructure.
